Server Updates And Our Encryption Certificate

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

**UPDATE**
10/1/2008

The encryption certificate issue we were experiencing has been fixed! We’re still working on other updates that you probably won’t notice, but you can now enter the secure parts of our website, including your My Account area, without getting any certificate alerts. You can also look at the certificate information itself (click on the little lock icon on your browser indicating a secure connection) and verify that the certificate being used has come from Thawte.com.

======

We’ve been busy behind the scenes recently making some updates on our servers, and one of the things that’s being affected is our encryption certificate. It’s being updated and in the process you may have seen an alert come up on your browser which might have caused you some concern. If you use Internet Explorer, it may look something like this:

There is a problem with this website’s security certificate.

The security certificate presented by this website was not
issued by a trusted certificate authority.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool
you or intercept any data you send to the server.

The reason for this message is that as we transition from one encryption certificate to another, we’ve temporarily had to use our own (self-signed) certificate to encrypt the connection between your browser and our servers. This self-signed certificate works perfectly fine to securely encrypt your data between your browser and our servers. But current browsers are very savvy (and rightly so!) about bringing it to your attention, lest you be unwittingly browsing a website which might be trying to scam you in some way and not using a third party certificate issuer to properly certify the website which is using the certificate.

We get our encryption certificates from thawte.com - a well-trusted supplier of high quality certificates. We have already received our new certificate and are in the process of installing it. If you have any concerns because you’ve recently seen a message similar to the one above, please hold on and you will very soon be able to verify that the certificate has been updated and that it has been issued from a trusted third party supplier like thawte.com. Once it has been installed, you should no longer see the error above.

I will update here again when we’ve finished the process. We’ve received a few inquiries about this, and I wanted to let you know that we’re aware of the issue and are on top of it. The privacy and safety of your information is a TOP priority here at NRP and something we take extremely seriously. At no time would we do something which would risk compromising it. But in the mean time, if you have any concerns at all, please feel free to come back here and check for updates and we’ll keep you in the loop as soon as we have more.

Thank you again for being so diligent and checking on these things and I hope this helps if you have had any concerns recently. As always, please feel free to email us directly if you have any questions or comments and we will get back to you quickly.

Michael Horton’s “Christless Christianity” Website Live

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

If you’re a White Horse Inn radio program listener, then this may come as old hat to you, but in case you might have been unaware, we’d like to recommend this to you. The new website was made live recently which is dedicated to Dr. Michael Horton’s new soon-to-be-released book, “Christless Christianity”.

Please take a look there and watch Dr. Horton’s quick video. Here’s the short text from the front of the new site:

Christians have always had their differences, but never in church history have there been so many statistics indicating that many Christians today are practicing what can only be described as “Christless Christianity.”

Christless Christianity guides the reader to a greater understanding of a big problem within the American religious setting, namely the creeping fog of countless sermons in churches across the country that focus on moralistic concerns and personal transformation rather than the theology of the cross.

Michael Horton’s analysis of the contemporary church points believers back to the power of a gospel that should never be assumed.

RE: Comments On Our New Bible Flash Cards

Monday, September 8th, 2008

I noticed some discussion recently about our new Bible flash cards from Dr. Rosenbladt and thought I’d add a note here giving a little background about them.

Bible flash card sets for memorizing Scripture have (obviously) been made before, but one of the main flash card sets which has been on the market for a long time is notorious for presenting Scripture in a way that focused the student on his or her own works. I know people who’ve found these other cards to be damaging to their faith with long-term exposure to such works- and self-focused study. Additionally, there really isn’t much out there with enough quality that we could recommend, and of course, getting solid Gospel-centric doctrine directly from Dr. Rosenbladt just can’t be beat.

We’re extremely grateful to have been able to get our hands on this resource. Please take a look at them when you get the chance!

Soli Deo Gloria…
